Using the automation on your off-party and just managing your main party while awake, and then switching automation to main party will be the fastest way to farm gems overall, though, if I'm not misjudging things.īriv is, from a very technical standpoint, "practically of no value" on constant gem farming runs due to the fact that building up steel stacks requires him to take hits, which you will be doing absolutely none of in a proper gem run. Each style has advantages and disadvantages to it where gem farming is concerned, but if you're still pushing your way up through the content, having a dedicated backstage run just constantly churning gems for you (even if it's at 1/5th the speed you could earn them actively) will let you keep advancing through the game's content on your active party with minimal investment. Pushing your wall is still necessary for increasing the longevity of any sort of automated run, as well as accessing more of the game's content so you can't get away from doing that. The disadvantage is that using it for gem (or patron) farming in this fashion operates at about 1/5 the usual speed of a gem farming run, so if you're trying to maximize gem earnings in an "official" manner, this method is considerably slower than using automation on the active party unless you're awake and managing things. You'll earn the gems/chests every 5 minutes or so while you play the game the way we have been since before official automation. The main advantage of background automation is that you can do other stuff. If using the Modron Core for offline/backstage runs**, you can use 2 familiars in total.** Set one on damage, one on a high DPS champ OR on your field clicker, save that as your formation, and just ignore the modron function for the rest of eternity other than checking on it at least once a week. Running into HP/Armor enemies is also a potential slow-up on speed runs, especially with the way Shandie and Sentry's mechanics work, which are areas you tend to gain speed.

The disadvantage of using automation for the active party is that you're not inherently pushing your favor, events, time gates, storylines, etc.

This will earn gems at roughly the rate you've been doing so previously if you were managing your runs during free moments and/or informally automating in the first place.

The main advantage of active automation when gem farming is that you're able to just go full steam at all hours of the day as long as your machine can handle those kinds of shenanigans. IF you're choosing to use the modron automation for your active party, it's worth noting that you can save the idealized formation for the campaigns/events you want to automate, set your familiars on just those champs, and save specializations, as well. For active gem farming, advance until you hit the point where click damage stops one-shotting things, and then take it back to the last boss level you were still one-shotting stuff.įor practical purposes, Deekin, Shandie, and Melf are your primary champs for doing a proper speed run for gem farming, and you don't need a lot of familiars/"extracurricular automation." Other speed champs like Sentry, Minsc, Briv, or Xander are less consistent with their boosts on speed runs, but will still speed things up as you gain more familiars. You can't kill things faster than instantly.
